a sample from my book that I am currently writing...

Jillian Moves On

Jillian started thinking about the day it happened.  The cotton fields were so beautiful on that little country road that her dad took to drive back and forth to Misty Springs Missions Church.  It was so vivid in her mind, like a movie playing in her head.  Little eight year old Jillian was buckled up safely in the back seat of the blue Toyota Corolla.  Her mom was sitting in the passenger seat with her belly barely able to fit in the seatbelt.  Jillian was singing "This Little Light of Mine," impressing her parents with her dramatic abilities.  They were soon all singing together and having a big laugh.  Suddenly, there was a deer bounding across the road from the woods.  Before Jillian's dad could react, he hit the deer sending the car into a tailspin.  It swerved and spun until it finally crashed into a tree.  It was a miracle that Jillian survived, or so everyone said.  She didn't feel that way sometimes...especially since she watched the life drain from her precious mom and dad.  Baby Joey only had one more month to go before he was to be born.  Jillian always wondered what he would have looked like if he had gotten the chance live.  She loved her baby brother even though she never got the chance to touch or hold him.

There was no funeral, no other family, and no one to take Jillian.  There was just a social worker who came to get a very sad, confused little girl.
